Weekly Reflection
Our senior project started out very successfully. This week brought a lot of new knowledge, hard challenges, and good productivity. The focus for this week was largely based on our laptops. When running your own business there is a lot of behind-the-scenes work that needs to be done. Often times there is more work put into this stage than actually providing the service. Josh and I completed a lot of these things this week. First, we learned about the legalities of starting a limited liability company in the state of New Hampshire. There are a number of steps that we needed to take. We learned the difference between manager-operated and employee-managed businesses as well as the benefits and takebacks of both. We developed a marketing plan that we thought would best fit our company and learned the value of having a target market. We thought hard about how we wanted to present our company to the public and designed a website, logo, slogan, name, t-shirts, business cards, as well as many other brand-related items accordingly. This process was enjoyable for us and we learned a lot about professionalism and representation. As that part got rolling we found it necessary to price out how much we were willing to charge for our service. This involved us finding out how much it costs to provide the service. We learned what other companies were charging and thus what price range the market was willing to bear. Then we estimated the cost of service. We took into account things such as gas, time, product use, and tool wear. Overall, this was an extremely productive week that brought us much closer to our goals.
