Weekly Relfection #2

The second week brought us a lot more of the hands on stuff. We decided that it would be pertinent to begin detailing cars. We began by cleaning both of our cars. This process taught us alot about conservation of product. We understood that we wanted to do the best possible job with a minimal amount of product use. Chemicals are expensive so this lesson was crucial to keeping margins optimal. We applied the amount of chemical use to the spread sheet that we created. Then we began to do other cars. It was during these cars where we really nailed down the process that we did things in when detailing. It is super important to have a set order of things to do when on a job site to be as time efficient as possible. This is where we understood and applied the lesson of time is money. When detailing my dads car we decided that doing the car from the inside out would be best. This process allowed us to have a set number of tools out when doing the inside and then replace them with the ho...

May 23, 2022                     Today Josh and I worked on our website. We decided today would be the day to publish it. We also began taking bookings. On the first day we dis about 1500$ in bookings. We did 5hrs of work.

May 22, 2022

May 22, 2022                      Today was another day of detailing cars. We a slightly older car than we were used to. Older cars tend to take longer as the fabrics and plastics wear down and collect more dirt as they age. We did a very thorough job to have this car looking new. We went through our typical process of doing the interior first, then the exterior, and then finally spot-checking both. We are getting much more efficient with our time now that we are back into the swing of doing it. We did about 4 hours of work.

May 21, 2022

May 21, 2022                    Today Josh and I worked individually to take care of some small tasks on our own end. I did some social media account management. I did some work on our Facebook page. I got an idea of how we were going to market our company on the site. Then I did more small but numerous things on our square site. I edited the flow of booking on our site and made sure that it was user-friendly. Then I mapped out how we were going to present our company at expresses-fest. I did about 5 hrs of work.

May 20, 2022

May 20, 2022                    Today we did more detailing on family cars to get back in the swing of things. We once again started with the interior. We vacuumed the seats and carpet as well as the floor mats. We treated the leather seats and applied a protective coating to the vinyl and plastic. We then moved on to the exterior. We washed it with water and waxed the exterior. Then we cleaned the wheels and rims (our specialty). Then we finished by cleaning all glass surfaces and mirrors.  We did about 5 hrs of work.

May 19, 2022

May 19, 2022                    Despite the rain and our plans to detail vehicles got a fair amount done today. We decided despite the rain that would detail one of our cars today. We did a full detail starting with the interior before the rain rolled in. We really focused on getting a step-by-step flow together. This would allow us to be efficient when working during the summer. Spending the least amount of time to get a quality result is crucial to our business so this day was super important. The exterior was not typical as the rain did a fair bit of the pre-soak. We did about 4.5 hours of work.
May 18, 2022                    Today we went shopping. We decided that buying in bulk would best fit our needs because we use a lot of products. We also found that this method had the lowest price per unit costs. We went to sams club first as they have good prices in bulk quantity. We got around 300 microfiber rags. Our next stop was Walmart where looked for anything else that we may need. We purchased a small detailing vacuum that would be good at getting into small cracks in vehicles. We did about 3.5 hours of work.
May 17, 2022                   We decided that we would like to move on to inventory and pricing at this stage. We are still waiting on the confirmation of our LLC from the state and the graphic designer to finish the logos and banners. So as we wait we are moving on. Today I and Josh realized that we needed to get a good idea of what we were missing for products and tools. We found it hard to visualize what exactly we were missing. As a result, we decided to do a test detail on our cars. The detail and inventory work took about 4hrs.

May 16, 2022

May 16, 2022                    Today Josh and I did a lot more website design. We got into the finite details of how the website should flow. We thought about how a customer would like to use the website. I had a conversation with one of our advisors who has experience in this sector. They gave us advice on how the website should look. We did about 4hrs of work.

Weekly Relection #1

Tucker Deyett Kelly Griffin-Brown May 15, 2022 Senior Project  Weekly Reflection  Our senior project started out very successfully. This week brought a lot of new knowledge, hard challenges, and good productivity. The focus for this week was largely based on our laptops. When running your own business there is a lot of behind-the-scenes work that needs to be done. Often times there is more work put into this stage than actually providing the service. Josh and I completed a lot of these things this week. First, we learned about the legalities of starting a limited liability company in the state of New Hampshire. There are a number of steps that we needed to take. We learned the difference between manager-operated and employee-managed businesses as well as the benefits and takebacks of both. We developed a marketing plan that we thought would best fit our company and learned the value of having a target market. We thought hard about how we wanted to present our company ...

May 13, 2022

May 13, 2022                    Today we did a lot of work on Square. We found there is a lot that we can do with it for our website and point of sale. We started by using our revenue calculations to price out different service levels. Then we listed these service levels on the website. We did work on how the website would look. We thought about how the website should flow. Then we booked our first test customer. We did about 4.5 hrs of work today.

May 12, 2022

May 12, 2022                    On this day we focused on registration and legalities. We did research on what company style would best fit our needs. We chose L.L.C because it was simple and made the most sense for our company size and revenue. LLC companies also allow us to be more legally protected in the event of an accident. We spent some time creating logo ideas. We also decided on company trademarked colors. Lastly we did some work on website design. We did about 4 hrs of work.

May 11, 2022

May 11, 2022                    Today Josh and I worked heavily on branding and website objectives. We registered an account with square and ordered point of sale equipment. I researched some checking accounts in the area that would best fit our company. We looked into the process of registering as an LLC. I contacted a graphic designer for some logo designs. We also did some market research to look at how other companies in the area were marketing. I did 2.5 hrs of work.

May 10, 2022

May 10, 2022                    Today Josh and I started by doing inventory on the cleaning products and tools that we had from last season. We made sure to throw anything out that was empty or we didn't need. We also made a shopping list of the things that we needed to replace. We also planned out the tools that we were going to use on a regular basis and thus needed extras. Later in the day, we took a look at a couple of marking strategies that we could use. We looked into the different types of websites and booking sites that we could use and compare prices among them. This day we did about 4.5hrs of work.

May 9, 2022

May 9, 2022                     Today Josh and I met with each other to go over the plan for the project. We closed in on our idea of what we wanted to do with the company in the coming weeks. We also brainstormed how we could best use our time during the senior project. Later, we met with our project advisor Scott Allenby to present to him the direction of our project as well as get his advice on some of the little things with business management. On this day we put in about 2.5hrs of work.
